Work Life Balance – Easy & Practical Steps

Work-Life Balance is not a new phenomenon. Though with the increasing participation of women in the commercial workforce the need and attention this topic is receiving are exponentially growing with time. There are numerous articles on Work-Life Balance but what I tried to focus on is an emphasis on Easy & Practical Steps For Work-Life Balance.

We all wish for balance. Why? Because it maximizes the utility we derive from life. Though in this article I am going to focus on working women with kids the steps discussed are equally beneficial and applicable to men, homemakers, and multi-taskers.

Let’s begin Step by step process of Work-Life Balance:

Fortunately, it is not as challenging as Thanos bringing balance in the Universe (hope our vibes match)

Make notes of What is important:

This is a one-time activity but you need to revisit your list from time to time as priorities change in life. Why is this step the most fundamental and prime step to bring in balance? Because we carry on many activities in our life which we don’t want or value. They occupy time and mind space. 

 By knowing what is important you can eliminate or delegate what’s not important. For example; I delegated the cleanliness of the home but kept the cooking part in my control (because it is important for me) to make it easier I get all prep done and just do the main cooking. 

Many of us (me) are neither social nor anti-social, so I chalked out just 1 day of my week for socializing. For some socializing may be more important than cooking. 

So by finding out what really matters you eliminate many unnecessary chores from life.

Plan your week ahead:

Planning the week will take maybe max an hour of your week but will save many hours we spend in dilemma and discussion. This has to be a family activity especially if you have a child. Planning for a week will include, food planning for the week, activities you are going to do and when, important tasks to be completed and even entertainment and chill time. 

So many memes are made about people indecisive about what to eat. though this topic seems to be a minor but when you will analyze takes a huge portion of mental space, especially for ladies as still in the majority of homes woman is in charge of the kitchen. There has been an exponential rise in men’s participation which is much appreciable. 

Planning brings in coordination and at the same time, the work can be divided between partners so none is burdened in the end. Be sure this must be a family activity and work must be divided such that there is equal participation at home.

Plan your day:

This may sound redundant after planning your week already. But trust me by just spending 5 minutes a day before planning your day you will save lots of time and even will be left with free time at the end of the day. 

When you are left with extra time don’t get tempted to complete another task ( we will discuss in the next to next point)

There are days when you will find yourself extra burdened and it is important to ask for help at that time. By planning you can ask in advance people around you for help.

Make the mornings easier:

Though this is an extension of the last step the point of discussing this separately is while planning your day ahead you must emphasize keeping morning work light and making more time for yourself and your family together. Sounds impractical but keeping uniform ready last night, making easy breakfasts, or preparing for it an earlier night, are some steps you can keep in mind. 

Recharge, take out time for yourself:

Just as we recharge our phone it is important to get recharged. In the last step when we discusses not getting tempted to complete another task, the point was to get recharged. Work is never-ending be it professional or personal. Work will be there till the end of this world for everyone. 

The one who is not recharged eventually loses their efficiency. In current times vacation is a synonym to recharge but it’s sort of buying a new phone. Like you recharge your phone daily you need to be relaxed and have free time both with family and yourself (without technology).

Ask for help:

Women all over the world are often overburdened. One of the reasons apart from external factors is a lack of delegation of work and hesitation in asking for help. It may be your family members, friends, paid help, or creches, you must always have an alternative to whom you can look upon and trust in times of need. To take care of your baby or to receive your parcles.

Apart from emergencies also in regular times, you must not shy away from asking for help and be sure to be there when they need you. 

A pat on your back!

Being a mom is a truly gratifying experience. Being responsible for another human being means juggling work with family, figuring out childcare, and making sure that your children are healthy, all while trying to stay sane. Hope you loved these tips. Now, if you feel fully confident to give it a shot, why not give yourself that well-deserved pat on the back!
